Chalcedony, (pronounced kal-sed’-nee), is a crypto-crystalline variety of the mineral quartz similar to agate. Unlike agates though which are usually banded, Chalcedony’s form in pure, translucent, jelly like colors.
Blue Chalcedony comes in a variety of translucent blue shades, from rich purplish blue material from South Africa, to angelic powdery blue from Malawi. Due to the rising popularity and rarity of Blue Chalcedony deposits in the world, there is very little quality rough material available. We do however have some fair quantities of top material, collected over the years when rough production higher.
Holley Agate from Sweet Home Oregon is a very rare translucent Purple Chalcedony. The Holley Agate mining areas that used to be open to collecting have all been closed and the only materials now are from old collections and estates.
